The Father Speaks...

On the Topic of the Upcoming Election

I have listened to the political rhetoric throughout the campaign, since it began more than a year ago. I have reviewed the candidates, their platforms, their voting records, their personal lives, at least as much as is available to the public.

Barack Obama is first one that I must reject. Not because he is a Democrat but rather his plan for the future of this nation is in total opposition to the principles and morals that we hold dear.

John McCain must also be rejected. He is a loose cannon as has been demonstrated in the senate throughout his political career. I applaud him for his service to the country while in the military. I doubt many of us would have resisted “talking” to our captors much (or any) better than he did while a POW. But as far as his voting record in the senate, it falls far short of what is acceptable as far as the values we proclaim to hold. There is NO WAY that I would vote for him!!!

My recommendation would be for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitutional Party. Everything I have heard and read about this man points to him being a man of principle and integrity. I may not agree with him on all issues but there are relatively few that I would consider bones of contention. He has my vote.

WAIT. A new angle has come into the equation. One that I have not expected. Sarah Palin, John McCain's choice for Vice President. This took me totally by surprise. She is incredible. She is the only one with executive experience with 2 years as Governor of Alaska. She is a faithful wife, mother of five, dedicated and above all she claims to be a conservative Bible believing Christian. With her as vice president, McCain will be able to pull in many women voters who would not vote for him otherwise. She is what they have been screaming for. But, there are many men who would not vote for him also. Well, he found his ticket to their votes as well. He has mine. With her as VP, McCain will have all the attributes that are lacking in his own abilities, character and conviction. The perfect compliment to his hopeful presidency. Well, maybe I WILL vote for Sarah Palin ...uh ...I mean John McCain.

How could I change my mind so quickly and without reservation, you ask?. That is the question I am asking about many who have entered into the very scenario I have illustrated above. What I am about to post is not to convince those who have supported John McCain prior to Sarah Palin's entry into to the race to change their vote. Their mind was made up a long time ago. My intent is to focus on those that are now considering voting for McCain because of Sarah Palin. I will state right off the bat that (OVERLOOKING the fact that she is a woman) from what I know about her, she is qualified and her moral character is probably better than most in the political arena, (maybe). Nevertheless, in my opinion, and understanding of scripture, she is disqualified because she is a woman.

Putting that aside, let’s get back to the above scenario. Those of you who have said, “There is no way I am voting for John McCain.” and are now considering voting for him as of August 29th. What has changed as far as Senator McCain goes? He is still the same. His views politically, personally and even religiously have not taken a turn for the better. He is the same man with the same agenda. What has changed? Only one thing and that is his choice of running mate. Sarah Palin. He knew (or at least hopes) that the potential for gaining votes from women would improve with her at his side. That is a given. Many undecided women voters, and even some liberal women, who thought Clinton should be Obama's choice for VP, may vote for McCain now. It is possible. Palin was brilliant pick on McCain's part. What is even more brilliant is being overlooked by many. The women voters who may swing their votes are very limited. They alone cannot push his candidacy over the top on election day. The factor that is being overlooked because it is so subtle is the undecided male voters. He needs as many of these votes as possible. Since choosing a woman is not an issue with McCain, he could have chosen an elderly stateswoman with equal or maybe superior qualifications. Instead he chose a woman who is much younger and who will appeal to the eye gate of many men. I think this was a very calculated and deliberate attempt to sway not just the vote, but particularly the male voter. I have yet to hear a woman switch her vote from a principled vote from a lesser candidate to McCain simply because of Palin.

I have heard many men in person and on talk shows who are switching, or seriously considering switching, to McCain just because of Palin. In effect they are holding to their original declaration “McCain – no way”. Their vote will be cast for Palin not McCain. The problem is that Palin is just the fluff. McCain, should he win, would still be president. If he has enough confrontations with Palin, the possibility of her resigning after the election is very real. If not, just think about how much or how little influence will she really have on the presidency. Not much.

Final thought. Read Proverbs. The book is about taking hold of wisdom and clinging to it. We are constantly told to avoid that which would sidetrack us from the paths of righteousness. One theme runs throughout: that we are to be wary of that which could lead us astray from wisdom. Anyone who declared they would vote their conscience and not for McCain and are standing by that statement, I applaud you. Those who have changed their minds because of Palin, consider this. Did others hear that declaration? Did your children? Your grandchildren? How about your wife? What will you tell them when they ask who you voted for? When they ask why you voted for McCain? When they ask what happened to voting your conscience or biblical principle?

This election is an important one. How you vote may or may not make a difference. Just remember, the Lord sets up rulers, kings, governors etc. and he does remove them. Our Lord is sovereign even in this election. I encourage you all to vote as you believe the Lord would have you vote. Only in obedience, regardless of the outcome, can you can look back and have no regrets.

These are just my thoughts. May the Lord bless and keep you all.

Uncle Eddy,
That was a wonderful post. It is discouraging that so many "Conservative Christians" are now complacently voting for John McCain simply because Sarah Palin is now on the ticket. Almost all of those suddenly turning their support to McCain lose sight of the fact that voting for a McCain/Palin ticket is violating biblical standards for civil magistrate.

Thank you for a great post from a heart of wisdom, Eddy. We are so grateful to the Lord for bringing you into our family, and we know He will use you to carry forth the vision through your "arrows"!

May the Lord open the eyes of His people to see the foolishness of grasping for pitiful straws. We cannot manipulate enough to save this nation. Only His principles will bring true reform and a return to what He desires our nation to be.

PS: RG, those were great insights!

I can see where you are coming from here, but the problem I can see with voting 3rd party is the fact that a vote for 3rd party is a vote for Obama. There is zero chance that a 3rd party candidate would win, so if you vote for him, you are not helping, but hurting the country. Personally, I would rather not have McCain as president either, but I REALLY don't want a terrorist communist Obama. To vote for a 3rd party is to split the conservative vote and give Obama a better chance to win. I would say vote for McCain, not because you want him as president, but because you do NOT want Obama.
Ok, I lose my train of thought too easily and start rabbit-trailing like crazy, and I think it happened again.

Eddie,

Thank you for your bold stand, one that can easily be mis-understood by many. I'm right there with you, I can't choose any more to vote the lesser of two evils because, you know what, it's still evil. My vote is a precious right that millions of brave Americans died to give me. I cannot in good conscience prostitute my vote to someone who may not take away as many freedoms as the more evil candidate might. God is ultimately in control of this election, and whomever He will allow to be elected will be elected; therefore it is my duty to God and my country to vote by conscience, not by rationale.

As I have said before, I see this election with one issue in mind, the lives of the unborn.

I will NOT sit idly by while an absolute abomination of a candidate gets voted into the White House. This candidate will then be in a position to appoint 2-3 SCOTUS justices who would further his anti-everything-holy world view. The "conservative Christians" gave us this choice when they fell for the tom foolery of Mike Huckabee and populist, conspiracy wacko Ron Paul. Both of those guys are goods guys, but I gurantee you, there are things about them that by "principle" I could find a reason not to vote for them. Although, if they were on the ticket, I would still vote for them, because both of them, with all their faults, would STILL be a better alternative than an Obama presidency.

I will vote my consicience, and my conscience will be clear because my vote will have mattered in the defense of life.

Love you all,
Jason

I agree with my husband and the young lady Rebecca. The way I see it there are two choices in this race, Obama or McCain. Obama being the evil one and McCain being the good one. We might not agree with everything McCain stands for but since when did he become evil? You know and I know only one of these two candidates WILL be president. What a waste it will be to vote for a third party knowing that vote is only doing one thing, helping Obama! I am only aware of the bible speaking against woman in "Spiritual Leadership" not Civil, according to our pastor. I do not believe voting for McCain makes me any less of a conservative christian nor am I a fool grasping for straws! We all have our own opinions and I'm just voicing mine as I have been quite too long. God Bless!

Love to all,
Ashley

You mentioned that "Nevertheless, in my opinion, and understanding of scripture, she is disqualified because she is a woman."
Perhaps Sarah Palin is a Deborah. God appointed Deborah as a judge over Israel - most likely because the men weren't stepping up to the plate.
I'm not supporting feminism or saying that women should just go and get government jobs; what I am trying to get across is that maybe she was called. Besides, there aren't many good Christian men up there in the world of politics now-a-days. Maybe our Christian men should get more involved in there, so they don't have to see a woman in the government or watch it while it gets more corrupt.
Hope I didn't sound to belligerent .... just stating my thoughts.

Have a nice day and God bless.

The former post was not intended to criticize or judge anyone who is voting for McCain/Palin. I am well aware that many godly men and women will be voting for McCain on principle and conscience. These would include family members, friends, and well known men such as James Dobson, Don Wildman, and Gary Demar just to name a few. I had no intention of questioning anyone's convictions or integrity just because they will cast their votes for McCain. That is their choice and I respect the stand that thay have taken as to why they will vote for him.
As for the issue of a woman as VP. That was based clearly on "my opinion and understanding of the scriptures." I will not spend time here defending my position.
The primary purpose of the post was to get people to ask themselves why their minds were changed once Palin came into the picture after they declared, "McCain, no way". Are they being swayed by a pretty face with a conservative label or are they really changing their vote because they believe that is what God wants them to do?
Thank you all for reading my post and commenting.

It seems like so many years ago, when Christian conservatives talked me into voting for George Bush, Sr., the same arguments then, are being made now, "A vote for anyone else would be wasted & the innocent unborn would be slaughtered without George Bush, Sr., as president". That was the last time I voted for the lesser of two evils. Why would he be considered evil, because, "The love of money is the root of all evil". The Repulican party has been sold out for the "love of money" for many years, just as the Democratic party has. History has proven my point so many years ago, that a Republican President, House and Senate, made no difference to the state of the unborn. True change will come when "my people who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (II Chron. 7:14). Thank you, Eddie, for challenging men to stand up and be men.

God Bless You Brother,
Ben
