Within the confines of this little cyber-world, you will encounter mind boggling facts (doubtful), side splitting humor (more doubtful), artifacts of great historical significance (we have a lot of old family photos to bore you with), and maybe you will even come across some genuine German/Canadian stuff

(Got your curiosity up, eh?!?)

Of the nine in this family, I am the Canadian. I am out numbered 9 to 1 by Americans. The odds are still in my favor. I am after all, "The Father." Join me on our wonderful journey.

After all those years of checking Accuweather...

It finally happened...Accuweather was actually useful in a "Sky is Falling" kind of way.

For those who aren't aware of this little family idiosyncrasy, there are those in our family and our extended family who take Accuweather and the like pretty seriously.

And then there are those in our family and our extended family who, well... just don't. We don't like all the hype and hoopla that comes with every possible change in weather. Hence our "Live with Kitty Steinburg" video. (Guess I just gave myself away huh?)

Well, all of the Weather Wise of the family have been vindicated. Not once, but at least twice. Years ago, Hurricanes Charley, Jean, and (I think) Ike hit our extended family in various degrees.

When we moved from Florida we knew there would be no more Hurricanes, right? Awww...what can we look out for now on Accuweather? I know!

(Fast threatening music in the background...warnings...emergency preparedness lists flash on screen...)

A tornado! It'll have to do. There are no names for tornadoes, just boring categories like F-0 or F-5. But hey, it's something.

Sure enough the Ozarkian Weather Watchers of the family had a night to remember last week. We had a bonified loosely formed (probably a mere F-0) tornado on our hands!

There we were, preparing to make dinner when we got the call from Uncle Jay, who had been keeping up with the storm on Accuweather. (Uh Oh. Guess I gave him away too) We all rushed over to their basement, which was the safest place to be.

Here is the best picture of the storm that we got. It was difficult getting a picture because it was very windy and dangerous.
Grace just informed me that this is actually a picture AFTER the storm - I guess we don't have a picture of the storm after all!

Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word:
(Psa 148:8)

For all my bravado, it was really scary to watch. The power of God is amazing and even though I tend to downplay it, I really am very thankful for those like my brother and my precious husband - my rock and guardian - who are diligent to watch the weather and clue in the clueless ones like myself.

Jason's cartop carrier was thrown at least 75 yards away and sustained minor damage.
(Don't I sound like a reporter from the Weather Channel?)

Eddie stands by a tree pulled out by the roots - big rocks and all

Surveying the damage. We lost sooo many trees. We are truly thankful for God's protection because as certain people will remind you,"It could have been worse."

Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.
(Psa 119:117)

How exciting!! And we are thankful that you are all o.k.. I'd say, a basement is a must if you live in Tornado Alley, huh? We don't even think basement in this part of the country!!

Enjoy your beautiful, unhumid, weather,

After living for years in "Tornado Alley" in Indiana, I remember with dread the sound of the tornado warning whistle in our small town; running with you little ones to the basement steps; hoping the water didn't pour into the basement through the small windows; herding you up to the middle of the basement stairs so you wouldn't get wet in the basement, because the water DID rush in; relief when the all clear blew.

Yes, tornadoes (doesn't Emma call them "tomatoes"? are just as scary as hurricanes, just over more quickly! In fact, during Charlie, there was a tornado at the Stricklens! Oh, BTW, the third hurricane that year (2004) was Frances, not Ike. (Ask me how I remember!, with a first name like Frances!)

We are so glad y'all are safe, even if you are a little more treeless. God has been good to our family, and that little basement storage room is one of the reasons I liked that property!

Love,
Mother and Happy Mother's Day to all!

Excitement reigns at the Discher/Frodge property!!!! Thankfully, we've never had a tornado here, or I'm afraid we'd be blown away, our little cabins floating in the sky a la "The Wizard of Oz". (Or, as Andrew used to say, the "Lizard of Oz"!)

Thank the Lord y'all are all safe and sound, even the naysayers--like me--that don't watch The Weather Channel!

Love,
Katie

So glad no one was hurt and that your house was undamaged.

Here in Arizona we don't have any of those types of scares so it sounds perfectly scary to me.
