Within the confines of this little cyber-world, you will encounter mind boggling facts (doubtful), side splitting humor (more doubtful), artifacts of great historical significance (we have a lot of old family photos to bore you with), and maybe you will even come across some genuine German/Canadian stuff

(Got your curiosity up, eh?!?)

Of the nine in this family, I am the Canadian. I am out numbered 9 to 1 by Americans. The odds are still in my favor. I am after all, "The Father." Join me on our wonderful journey.

As mentioned in the last post, the day before we left for Missouri we were called upon to rally 'round our state and country, drive the invading Yankees from our lands, defend our honor and liberty, cheer on the gallant efforts of our wounded and weary boys in grey... Well, that's the sentimental way of saying it. In essence, our devotion to Re-enactments of the War of Northern Aggression* was tried, and was not found wanting. So... off we went to Homeland Heritage Park: the Skirmish of Bow-legs Creek.

*That ought to satisfy even the purest Purists...

"Hooray!!! A Reenackmen'!"

Markie and Chelsea looking lovely!

"Southrons, hear your country call you!
Up! Lest worse than death befall you!
To Arms... in Dixie..."

Sadie... and I... and Mrs. Waldman... and Mariah... and Chelsea... and... other people...

(Mysterious music plays, as with each series of dots, suspense grows...)

We are... sitting.

(Come on, people. I've got to at least make the picture sound interesting...)

Emma: "Tummon, Wiwllee-um! We won't tiss you or ennyfing!
Mariah: "Hurry up!!! My smile's 'bout to freeze! And it hurts!"

Lovely Stricklen girls, a distinguished-looking miniature Colonel, and a little boy who looks very fierce holding his "dunn." Or part of his "dunn." We'll try not to mention that most of the weight is being supported by his sisters, as he is mercifully unaware, and he might get dangerous were the slanderous fact widely known...

The Doolin boys and their Pa

Us Discher girls and our brotherS
(Ah... it feels sooo good to say that!)

(I'm not quite sure what exactly the nebulous something trying to form in the corner is...)

All the girls, dressed up in their "ol' fashioned" clothes.

"Here comes the Confederate army. All twelve of 'em. What? Thirteen? Musta missed one."

Our gallant army was, uh, rather lacking in numbers, but they made up for in spirit what they lacked in might. :)
Actually, we outnumbered the Yankees. Tells you how small their army was!

"Stand strong, men! We've had some losses, but so have the Yanks. In that last volley, we shot down about half their force. Literally."

Mrs. Franklin views the battle with a concerned expression. Emma and Willie were really going at it...

(Not really.)
(Just sounded good...)

Fallen soldiers of the Union army. Poor souls. They really thought they were fighting for the right.

"Peter is wounded."
Not to worry. It's an improvement. A second ago, we thought he was dead. He was? Oh.
Due to a lack of abundant militia, some of the fellows had to die and then resurrect. Several times.

"He's down... No, he's up. Wait a minute... He's down again.
Uhh... Folks, We'll just leave him hangin' in midair."

Kitty and Ryan watch the scenes with bated breath, as Inspector Japp of Scotland Yard swoops
down in the background...

The mothers and papooses take a break and fellowship. Sorry Jord and Joe. Move next time.

"Wow. Our army really looks small... That can't be all of them... Nahhh. Could it?"

Sunshine and the blue sky...

"Put the skeer on 'em, boys. Watch them Yankees fly!"

Sarah soberly ponders the sacrifices of the past.
And if she wasn't really, she ought to have been.

"Fi-yerrrr......... ONE!!!"

The Yankees begin to advance. The intelligent ones are behind the trees...

I guess their Captain or whatever-his-rank-is is instructing his men on the battle tactics.

"It was a lovely battle! Don't you think?"
"Oh, yes. Nobody died! Or, at least, if they did, they didn't stay dead!"

"Did you see that one guy? He ought to have been buried 9 times by now! Oh! That was Pete??? Sorry...

"I heard you call me a miniature kernel..."
:)

What's better than a good old game of battle-field football...

"Don't huwt yooselfs..."

Sarah was elated to finally have an occasion to wear her cape!

Everybody listens to Uncle Chris give his take on the day...

The Resurrecting Stomach on Legs flashes us a smile

Mariah flashes us another one, that's brighter and cuter, if possible, than her dress...

Mama and the Paul pose for us, though Paul manages to look extremely natural.

Sarah, Aunt Molly, and Little Fellow smile at us. Though you can't see L.F. Confidentially, he's shy...

And, that's about all, folks!

"So sing hey! Hey! The gang's all here..."

A note of seriousness after all my frivolous comments:

Re-enactments always make one stop and ponder. Regardless of how small the armies were, and how much fun we had, we were reminded once again of the poignant, selfless nobility of the Southern Cause. We would do well to remember the tremendous sacrifices made by the men and women of our heritage, and to spread the true story, rather than the Revisionist cover-up, of the War that rewrote History. We must take care to commemorate them and their widely unsung heroism, especially as they are ruthlessly slandered by the majority of people today. To think what the men, women, and even children of the South went through to try and turn the tide of Socialistic, Imperialistic, Godlessness that they could see rising in this beloved nation, and then to see their names and their honor callously besmirched and dragged in the dust. It is heartbreaking to see the very ideals and principles they gave their lives to preserve for their children being handed to the smirking enemy upon a silver platter. We cannot allow their sacrifices to be in vain. We must not allow the "Lost Cause" to be forgotten.

*Cough* Ahem. Enough of my ranting.

I hope you enjoyed your visit here!

I bid good bye to all, and to all a good bye.

Please come again!!!

Gracie, what a delightful post! And what poignant and insightful comments at the end. Thank God, another generation will be taking the truth forward.

Thank you, Grace.

Enjoyed the post Grace, as always. Y'all always keep your blog so interesting and funny. All your captions are hilarious.
That re-enactment makes the Andersonville re-enactment loose it's place as the smallest re-enactment. Now it'll just have to be 2nd to the smallest. ;-)
And I also enjoy, appreciate and agree with your "rantings". ;-)And calling it what it was,"The War of Northern Aggression". :-)
Hope you'll come visit us soon.

Ah, what a delightful post! I believe the most delightful part was seeing Grace actually use the word "skeer"! (Can we technically call it a word, or should we sub-categorize it as dialectical spelling ???)

Thanks for your "rant". You very succinctly put into words the heartfelt beliefs of most true Southrons.

Love,
Aunt Katie

That was a great post, Grace! I knew it had to be you posting - I could tell by your manner of speech (well, the little hint where the caption said "Sadie and I" and there you were! helped a bit as well!).

Great pictures & perfect and enjoyable captions!
Loved all the commentary! I had to think a minute about who L.F. was :)
Sweet - that sounds just like you!

Your thoughtful commentary at the end of your post is greatly appreciated and agreed with by all of us Stricklens. I tend to reflect and ponder those same sort of thoughts at every reenactment I go to. I feel it is the least I can do - ....remember and do my part to keep telling the true story as you referred to it.

Thanks!
Love you!
Aunt Molly

PS Please make sure Grace reads this as it was written for her - I know how seldom she visits the computer!

Thank y'all for all your comments! I'm so glad you appreciated the post!

Grandmama, don't worry. With God's help, we'll carry the torch! :) If we fail (Heaven forbid,) you can come back and haunt us...

And Laney, sorry we stole Andersonville's title. :) I'm glad I made you happy with the W. of N.A....

Aunt Katie, "skeer isn't part of my regular vocabulary, but that picture just made me think of that song, so I guess it's in there now, in pen and ink. Or pixel and screen...

Powers Family, I'm glad you return the sentiments! I figured as much!

And Aunt Molly, never fear! I read your comment! I do get on occasionally... :) I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

I really appreciate all of y'alls comments. Thank you again! Come back any time!

Extremely enjoyable. I suspect that the Yankee force of the reenactment were Confederates forced to wear blue, in order to actually have a battle. Alas, 'tis the opposite hereabouts.
I especially liked the rant at the end; I certainly know how that is.

Keep up the excellent work!
In Christ,
Johann

The "other people" would be Amanda & myself aka Mrs. Franklin :~)

We Franklins also "enjoy, appreciate and agree with your "rantings". ;-)And calling it what it was,"The War of Northern Aggression"." Laney, I hope you don't mind me quoting you :~)
