Within the confines of this little cyber-world, you will encounter mind boggling facts (doubtful), side splitting humor (more doubtful), artifacts of great historical significance (we have a lot of old family photos to bore you with), and maybe you will even come across some genuine German/Canadian stuff

(Got your curiosity up, eh?!?)

Of the nine in this family, I am the Canadian. I am out numbered 9 to 1 by Americans. The odds are still in my favor. I am after all, "The Father." Join me on our wonderful journey.

Cap and Trade Vote not "Thrilling" enough

Do you ever feel like you are in one of those nightmares that you can't wake up from? That's what I feel like right now. The Twilight Zone...where everything is surreal.
----------
Americans are more concerned with the death of Michael Jackson than the fact that today our congressmen were voting on arguably the most influential economic bill of the Century.
----------
While our country is being systematically run into the ground, 60% of Amazon's sales today were from Michael Jackson products. The major news networks appear to be giving more coverage to this man's inevitable demise than to the inevitable demise of our country. While Jackson's death (and his life for that matter) was tragic, does our focus really need to be on a man who's life was spent in self-destruct mode? Maybe there is a connection between "Jacko's" death and this bill after all. Maybe Americans are determined to self destruct. This bill is a guaranteed road to recession and a heavy heavy load for our children to carry. Among other requirements, Califormia level building codes would be required nationwide.
-----------
I know anyone reading this blog probably did call their congressman, and isn't buying Michael Jackson memorabilia. All the same, it is incredible to ponder the mindset of the general populace. I pray that we wake up as a nation, and that we as Christians would humble ourselves, pray, and turn from our wicked and lethargic ways - myself included - for our children's sakes.
-----------
Just a few amazing and discouraging numbers from this "conservation" bill.
  • Energy specialists estimate that the bill will affect the environment by 2/10ths of a degree difference by 2100 - Impressive!
  • It was 1200 pages long, not including the 300 page amendment that was presented at 3:00 AM this morning! (Yeah...I'm sure they all read and voted intelligibly on it)
  • Estimated tax revenue between 2012 and 2035? 5.7 trillion, with 85% of that going to special interest groups! (Do I see giant acorns in our future?)
  • Gas prices will go up an estimated 85%, while electric bills will increase by an estimated 90% (Sorry! No hot water tonight, kids)

(source - Fox Network's Glenn Beck show 6/25/09. Most numbers from the Heritage Foundation)

The bill passed 219 to 212 with 9 Republicans jumping ship and voting for it. May God have mercy on us and keep the Senate from passing their version.

Thank you for posting this Mrs. Discher.
It is discouraging. But it makes me more thankful than ever for my mother going after building a house and thinking long term -- like investing in the most quality insulation.
At our JBS council dinner, John McManus commented that he was born in the middle of the great depression. "My parents were brave."
I thought "Wow! His parents blessed the world by having him even though it was a difficult time!"

We are filled with joy that God is giving you another little one. Melody is praying for a July 10 birth, so he can share John Calvin's BD:).

Wisdom-filled observation, Beth. As we watched on C-SPAN yesterday, when Mr. Boehner took over an hour to go through just some of the provisions of the amendment, not the whole bill, we were filled with a sense of destiny, "for such a time as this".

This has been building in our personal awareness (as you know) for some time, but yesterday was something of a real dawning of what we, as a nation and as a family, will be facing. God is faithful and has every moment in His hands, we can be sure, but humanly it seems that this is a real turning point for the worse!

Thank God for His unfathomable wisdom and mercy! Our times are in His hands!

Thanks for your perspective -- our hearts, as your parents and the grandparents of your children, are thankful that the torch is carried forth in good hands!

Love,
Mother and Daddy

Thanks, Regina. You are right, God sends these little ones even in uncertain times! His purposes are eternal and long term! We can certainly trust His wisdom! I really enjoyed reading your family's blog post about the building of your house. That was such a testimony of long term vision paying off! Praise the Lord! May God bless your sweet family. (July 10th WOULD be neat! Wow!)

Thanks, Mama for the encouragement. The song the girls sang today, "Carry the Torch" was such a reminder that they will indeed carry the torch into the future, which our Heavenly Father is well aware of and guiding. Love you!

The unbelieveable stats about this bill make it seem ridiculous that ANYONE would actually even consider voting for it.

It's rather discouraging to feel like our nation is being swept out to sea on wave after wave of insanity.

Only God can be our refuge and strength, our very present help in trouble.

Thanks for posting.
