The sleeping patient.
For those who are not on Facebook, we wanted to update the blog.
We have much to be thankful for, not the least of which are the prayers of our dear friends and family. Eddie had cut his left hand with a mitre saw (cut-off saw) yesterday morning.
I got the phone call from a friend of mine. He had been laying hardwood flooring at her house. As he was cutting the last piece of wood, somehow it was drawn into the blade and drew his hand in with it. As I was talking with her, I was just trying to absorb it all. She was saying, "He didn't cut his wrist through..." and all I could think was that she was trying to break it gently that he had cut his fingers off. Then she told me what happened - that the top of his hand had been cut through about halfway.
The ambulance came, gave him morphine right away (poor man!) and attempted to rushed him to the ER, but had a blow-out! I met him at the hospital and saw the cut. It was very mangled and open. He had cut through a number of tendons and though 4 bones. The head surgical nurse said it was the worst hand injury he had seen. It was really mauled. Another nurse told me she had been a trauma nurse in another state. She said that at that hospital they wouldn't have taken the time to put it back together. It would have been considered too severe and would have been amputated. (Yikes! I about fell over when she told me this!) How thankful we are that a plastic surgeon just "happened" to be on call. He was very qualified and we thank God for him being available!
He went into surgery at around 8:30 last night and came out around 11:30. He did great. An hour after the surgery, his hand had 98% blood flow. That apparently is very good. The Dr. was excellent. He placed pins in 4 bones, and sutured 6-7 tendons. Can you imagine the intricacy of that work? Baxter Regional is just a super hospital - very thoughtful of our needs and attentive.
Eddie was very brave through all the pain. I was so proud of him. The morphine didn't completely wipe out the pain but he was cheerful all the while. He has been optimistic as to the fact that God has a purpose and we can act on that.
Eddie's home now and resting. He goes in Wed. to get a cast on for 6 weeks and then therapy. Now real life begins :) Thanks again for all your prayers. God is only good - all the time.
(I have a picture of the wound, but didn't think everyone would appreciate seeing it:) If you really, really want to see it, just email us at discher@gmail.com)

So glad he is home and on the road to recovery! We'll continue to pray for him.
"God is only good-all the time." Amen! :)
Love,

Beth,
I am so glad this turned out so well. I can't imagine how he tolerated the pain. I know that now that he is home, he will have a wonderful "nursing" staff to take care of him. :o)
We will continue to pray for his recovery.

Our prayers are constantly being raised to the Lord on Eddie's behalf. Steve had a hand injury years ago, not nearly like Eddie's, so we can "kinda" understand a little of what you all are going through.
We love you all and wish we could do something to help!!
Much Love,
The Graves
Thank you for taking the time to post the amazing story of God's care and provision. We have been praying for all of you ever since we heard of the accident.
Praising the Lord for His mercies!
Love,

Hello Dischers! We were so concerned about Eddie and we are so thankful for such an amazing outcome to a horrible situation! We are still praying for complete healing and relief from the pain. What a godly response from Eddie, through the trauma, to acknowledge the Lord's goodness, what a wonderful example to your children and mine too!
We love y'all very much!

We are so thankful for the lord's protection on Eddie's life. We are praying for a speedy recovery and that the pain would start to subside. We love you all and praise the lord with you in this storm that he will see you through!
We are so thankful for the Lord's providential care of our dear "son"-by-love! God's hand was evident every step of the way, wasn't it? Thank you, Lord! And we're so glad Jason and Ashley are nearby, too. Looking forward to getting there in a few days -- you know this mama -- just gotta be there in person!
Love to all and continued prayers,
Mother and Daddy
We cannot imagine!! What an amazing God we serve that had
every detail worked out with the
wonderful staff at the hospital,
and the amazing doctor, etc. It
sure is a testimony of God's faithfulness, isn't it? Eddie's
whole attitude during this terrible
accident is also such a testimony.
We will surely keep you in our prayers, daily, and just pray the
Lord's abundant blessings on your family. To God be the Glory, forever, AMEN!!
We love you,
The P's
Thanks so much for keeping us updated through texts, phone calls and now this blog post. We are so very grateful for the Lord's mercies on Eddie and your family. We have been praying continually for you all. We are just trusting God for complete healing!
We just HATE to think of Eddie in that pain, but we know he is strong in the Lord - his testimony through this is such a blessing :)
Chris and I love him like a brother, he is very precious to us.
Please keep your eyes on Him. He will see you through these difficult days.
We are praying! Love you all so much!

I am so thankful that the LORD protected him! I can't imagine the pain he is in. We are praying for his comfort and continued recovery! After my tendon repair in my foot, I know what that therapy is like. I will be praying for that to go well also. Many, many blessings!!!!

I posted this on facebook as well - I do not want to miss anyone -- Thank you all for your expression of love and your prayers. You all have helped me through this initial phase of my injury in a wonderful way. As taken by surprise as I was when my hand suddenly appeared in the exact location where the saw blade was turning, (law of physics - no two solid objects can occupy the same space at the same time), I instinctively knew something was amiss. From that very moment on, my eyes, my mind and my heart beheld the wonder and glory of our Lord and Savior's love. In the fraction of a second that it took for my hand to go where no hand should go, His blessings, His grace and His mercy began to flow forth. Again, I thank you all for your kindness towards me and my family, and I praise God for you all.
- Eddie :-)
